September 29/02 Its hard to believe that after all this time that It is finally running, and driving 2 years and 5 days after it was completely stripped. I was able to get it running just in time to be able to drive it out to the last race date of the year, I took the car out for a tour down to an auto parts swap meet by the river.
I then went out to the racetrack to let my presence be known and to show off my toy! Since I had zero miles on the car and was not going to run it hard until I had some time to work the bugs out of it, It had to sit beside the track and not on it.
I was not so fortunate as I went to go home, as I turned out of the track (seen in the background) I heard a clattering sound in the top end of the motor. I was kind of stuck, I had no tools and there were very few people left at the track, so once again the last race of the year continues, and the car comes home on the hook for the fourth year in a row from the last race. Did I mention I have broken a lot of parts over the years? It turned out to be something simple, and cheap when I got the car back home I tore the valve covers off and found I had a backed off rocker. The ragtop was ready to go again the next weekend when our mustang club took a 60 mile cruise to a smaller town for pizza at one of our members restaurant.
The trip was an awesome one, and of course was topless all the way the way that it should be!
Carnage is a normal part of my life when it comes to my car, and this year was destined to repeat all the other's! Against my better judgment I put the ET Streets on for the first time since the car has run, and that proved to be a mistake. New Found Power + Traction =
This nights carnage came from my very low mileage T 5.
I had been expecting that the T 5 was not going to be long term, but I had hoped that it would last longer then into second the first time I hit it hard with some traction.
The only answer to this dilemma was an auto. So I made some deals and within a couple of week's I was beginning a C4 swap. Soon the car was up and running once again. Of course it was just in time for the snow to arrive.
I have not yet put the car away for the winter yet, but it will be coming soon, I have been driving it very sparingly, and the weather is looking awesome this week (above freezing) So I foresee the roof coming down in the near future again! I look forward to bringing you more progress once the spring thaw hits and I can really work the bugs out and go for a real tear in the car!
